Wing Cemetary Restoration Project:

The Wing Cemetery Restoration Association was created to restore the cemetery back to an honorable resting place for the founders and war heroes of Petersburg, MI who rest here. The Association consists of a small, very dedicated group of interested citizens, and one council member.

Our wish is to honor the men and women who founded our town, by restoring the cemetery and updating the historical information lost to the past.  Many war heroes rest here and need to be appropriately recognized by our community.   The cemetery has been vandalized & neglected over the years.  We intend to raise community awareness by holding Memorial & Veterans Day services in the cemetery.  Any historical information discovered will become a permanent part of our library's history room. Family Tree enthusiasts will be able to locate their ancestors.

The project entails resetting the tombstones, installing an appropriate fence with a welcoming arch, removing dead and unstable trees, cleaning up overgrown brush, and planting flowers. Much of this work has already been accomplished.

The other goal is to identify all who are buried there. Records have been lost over the years. Members of the association work to research the names and build a history of each person buried there. Much of this work remains to be done.

If you are interested in information about the restoration of the cemetery please contact:
